Your Skin in Perimenopause:
Why Your Face Is Freaking Out (And What to Actually Do About It)
So. Your skin has decided to have a full meltdown. And I get it. I see this all the time in my treatment room.
You're 40-something. Or maybe you haven't even hit your 40s yet, but suddenly your skin is just... different. Not in a good way, but more in a "what the heck is going on" kind of way.
Your face doing all kinds of funky (and un-fun things). You look tired even though you feel like you got enough sleep. You have lines that you swear weren't there last year. And the skincare routine that used to work? Nothing seems to be working anymore.
Welcome to perimenopause. Your skin took a one way ticket to confusion town. But today I am giving you some solutions on how to fix that.
Your skin is dry. Like, impossibly dry. You use moisturizer and it still feels like sand paper.
And you're sitting there thinking, "What is wrong with me? What am I doing wrong?"
Nothing. You are not doing anything wrong. Your skin is just in a different season. And it needs different support. The kind of support that drugstore moisturizer and a random skincare routine is not going to give you.
I see this constantly. Women walking in my treatment room saying, "I do not know what happened. My skin just changed overnight."
And then I look at their skin and I know exactly what to do. Because I have fixed this hundreds of times.
What's Actually Happening To Your Face Right Now
You weren't imagining it, your skin is drier than it has ever been. Not just the surface. Deep down. Your skin has lost its ability to hold onto moisture. Your face looks tired because you are losing collagen. Your skin is reactive to everything because your barrier is compromised.
You might be breaking out for the first time in years. You might have sensitivity you never had before. You might be dealing with all of it at the same time (lucky you).
You need professional help. You need facials and you need products that are actually designed to work. And you need someone who knows exactly what they are doing.
That is where I come in. YAY!
Here's What I Do For This
When my clients come to me, I do not just give you a random facial. I look at your skin and I know what it needs right now. In this season. With what is happening INSIDE your body, mind + spirit.
I use a blend of somatic facial + massage. This means I am not just working on your skin. I am working with your nervous system. Your skin is stressed because your body is stressed. So I slow down. I use touch that actually calms your nervous system. I create a space where your body can finally relax.
And when your body relaxes, your skin can heal.
My personal favourite Eminence products I recommend are: The Bamboo Firming Fluid. The Bamboo Age Corrective Mask. The Firm Skin Peel. The Monoi Moisturizer. These products work together. They are not random. They are a system designed to fix exactly what is happening to your skin right now.
And the #1 question I get from clients all the time..
How often should I get a facial
I recommend doing it with the seasons: Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer. As the seasons change, so does our skin. Being Peri-menopausal your skincare routine will be different in the Winter than the Summer.
The At-Home Routine That Actually Works
Here’s the thing.. you cannot just rely on facials to do the heavy lifting either. You need to do the work at home too. But it has to be the right work with the right products.
I love the Stonecrop Cleansing Oil - it’s powerful enough to get off make up and it’s deeply hydrating for those of us peri-menopausal club. You need the Bamboo Firming Fluid as your hydrating serum under your moisturizer. The Firm Skin Peel is great for exfoliating (also very important for sloughing away dead skin cells, leaving you with brighter skin, but allowing your products to penetrate much deeper too).
The Bamboo Age Corrective Mask can be used weekly (I love putting it on before bed and leaving it on overnight). The Monoi Moisturizer will become your daily wing woman (it can also be used at night).
This all works because the products are designed to work together.
I tell you exactly how to use them. I tell you when to use what. I do not make you guess. You follow the system. Your skin changes.
Why a Random Drugstore Routine Is Not Going To Cut It
I am not here to judge your skincare but drugstore products are never the answer. They simply don't have enough active ingredients to work well enough.
The products I use are different. They are organic. They are biodynamic. They have stem cells and natural retinol alternative and ingredients that actually work on a cellular level.
Why You Need Facials, Not Just Products
I could talk about products all day long and you will 100% see some improvement. But professional facials are the game changer. A facial is professional level exfoliation and hydration and massage and nervous system work all at once. It is 90 minutes where someone who knows exactly what they are doing is working on your skin.
At home, you are doing maintenance. You are keeping the results going. But the facials are the needle mover. The facials are what changes your skin.
That is why I recommend four facials a year minimum. One in each season. Your skin needs that level of professional support to actually transform things.
